Our first residency, Misadventures at Broomfield Hall invited 20 second year UWE photography students to join us for two nights in a wonderful countryside manor in Quantock Hills, Somerset. Designed to encourage creative freedom away from academic structure, this residency promoted process-led practice. Using props we found around the house and grounds, we conducted a collaborative workshop based on creating an editorial style shoot exploring fictional narratives and characters. This facilitated students to work together and be imaginatively playful as a method of making, where enjoying the process was more important than any outcomes. On top of the creative workshop, the weekend involved walking through the surrounding area, sharing home-made vegetarian meals, a pub quiz and games night, and finally an outdoor projector exhibition to celebrate what we had made together.
